It’s here, the February Feature! This month I have no other than my good friend Anne, of whom you have probably heard me mention so many times on my Insta-we met through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, (we are both the same age, and both have a cat named Piper, destined to be friends, I know), and we have been each other’s health coach, friend, and most recently we started a Facebook support group together called Straight Up Wellness, where we want to bring wellness realness to anyone and everyone, making health a truly attainable thing for everyone. I wanted to feature her here, as she is not only an amazing friend, but an equally amazing health coach. Read more below to learn all about Anne:
Tell us who you are, and what is it that you do?
I’m Anne! I am a Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and a course advisor at one of the top online Nutrition Schools in the beautiful NoMad neighborhood of Manhattan. I talk to fellow passionate and aspiring, or current, health coaches every day. It’s a wonderful environment to work in and I couldn’t be happier.
What do you do as a health coach?
I work specifically with women on body positivity, self-care, self-love, and finding balance in an effort to make long-lasting changes by discovering what works for YOU because there’s nobody like you! No fad diets. No detoxes. No cleanses. Nothing fancy. Just overall GOODNESS.
What is your favorite health product that’s out there right now?
- Coco kind Skincare’s MACABEET stick! Natural lip color while moisturizing and on-the-go cheek color? Yes please!
- Kite Hill’s Almond Milk Greek Yogurt style yogurt plain flavor. I used to miss real yogurt but now with this stuff I honestly prefer the taste and texture of this dairy free yogurt. A total game changer!
- GT’s new line of Sparking Cider probiotic drinks. The Puh-reh Root flavor tastes like root beer but has a bunch of medicinal mushrooms, ACV, probiotics, and root beer spices and it’s SO DELICIOUS.
- Vital Protein’s Collagen Matcha Powder– this stuff is expensive, so I don’t know how often I’ll get it, but it is so yummy! All good, clean, ingredients and has a nice sweet-ish coconut flavor from coconut water makes a delicious latte. I honestly prefer to make my own matcha at home as opposed to going out to get it now! I can make it as strong as I want and load it with superfoods like collagen, fats, and adaptogens!
Tell us about your morning routine, what rituals do you have that are sacred to you?
I’ve start off every morning with a glass of warm lemon water and my daily vitamins from Hum Nutrition; Daily Cleanse, Flatter Me digestive enzyme, and Probiotics. Sometimes I do 5-10 minutes of oil pulling if I have the time, but lately I’ve been prioritizing my yoga practice.
I recently did Yoga with Adrienne’s 30 Day Yoga journey in January and it was life changing. That sounds so corny, but seriously. Just getting even 15-30 minutes of yoga/stretching/deep breathing in every day has helped my anxiety, connected me to some of the fears that I’ve been suppressing for long time, makes me feel stronger and more flexible, and I WANT to fuel my body with clean, whole foods. Seriously, I don’t have many cravings for chocolate, fried foods or whatnot since doing yoga every day.
After yoga, I shower, and then concoct a LOADED morning tonic (I try to switch between Matcha and Coffee every other day) that’s filled with healthy fats (ghee, coconut oil, MCT oil), collagen (Vital Proteins collagen peptides), herbs/adaptogens (I alternate between Cordyceps, Ashwaghanda, Maca and Rhodiola which are all good for balancing hormones, energy, sex drive, focus, steady energy, and immunity) and caffeine, obviously, while listening to “The Daily” Podcast by the New York Times my favorite way to stay up-to-date with the news without exposing myself to too much media. I load my morning beverage with all of that stuff because it helps my body metabolize the caffeine evenly, so I don’t have energy crashes, and putting all of those ingredients in one cup feels so nourishing. It’s my favorite time of day. I start it off my creating something a little different every day, getting those creative juices flowing, while providing my body with medicine provided to me by the earth. It’s a sacred ritual for me.
If I have extra time I make breakfast (otherwise I bring ingredients to make at work) and do some journaling or planning. I love writing and scheduling things in my planner, I’m such a nerd.
Also, I don’t look at my phone until I’m about to leave the apartment, or when I’m on the train on my way to work. This has been a major shift for me and has been incredible. I save SO much time in the morning’s now.
What is one piece of advice that you would give to someone looking to improve their overall wellness?
Drink more water. The earth gives us this vital resource for a reason! Drinking more water will improve your digestion, skin, hair, nails, help reduce bloat, detoxify etc.
What do you do in your free time when you aren’t spreading the word about health and wellness?
Run! I’m a Marathoner who’s been recovering from a pretty nasty injury, but I think this year is going to be my year!
Sing as much as I possibly can. Music, specifically singing, was my first love. This will always, always, always be a part of me. It’s nice to sing for fun and express myself without the pressure of booking a job or impressing hundreds of people in the audience.
Travel. I’m always looking at new places to travel to. I love the earth so much and want to explore as many nooks and crannies as I can to explore all that it has to offer. I have a deep connection to nature and the earth, it’s spiritual for me, so traveling and exploring is truly sacred to me.
I also want to add that Anne is a curry queen, she knows how to make the best curry, and walked me through making my first ever curry, and now I’m hooked! Follow along with Anne on Instagram @health.inbloom to see her daily adventures in health and wellness!
